Below the Surface is a browser exhibit on how people have worked the rock, one era at a time: fire-setting, the hand-hewn adit, drill and blast, room and pillar, cut and fill, and longwall. Each era is a 3D diorama you can orbit and zoom, with labels for the toolkit, the deposit, and what to look for in the working.

Highlights

  • Change the conditions. Every diorama can be switched from normal operation to a rockfall, a water inrush, smoke and fumes, or an equipment fault. Each hazard plays out as a four-stage incident, warning to aftermath, on a scrubbable timeline.
  • Exhibit framing. Each stage reads like a museum placard: the tradition, the tools, the deposit, and a short note on the cycle of work, with a pointer to the Park City Museum’s mining history.
  • Runs anywhere. A single static Vite build with one WebGL canvas; no accounts, no backend.
